Description

From Wasdale Head carpark I did a lap around Wast Water and then headed up Yewbarrow via Bell Rib, Great Door and Bull Crag. Kept heading north and headed up Red Pike. The weather got really bad at the summit and I decided to head down to the lower ground towards Scoat tarn. From here I headed I tried to contour round the river Nether Beck and head south to summit Middle Fell. Then I headed down SW to the main track and back to Wast Water and return to the car park at the start.

All this route was new ground for me. Up top was poor visibility.

Area : Western Fells

The Western Fells form the southern wall of the Buttermere valley and the northern fence of Wasdale. Between the two lies Ennerdale so that in effect the group is the shape of a single horseshoe, each branch about 10 miles in length. At the head of Ennerdale stands Great Gable. The southern arc of the group travels due west from Great Gable, the main ridge consisting of Kirk Fell, Pillar, Scoat Fell, Haycock and Caw Fell.
