Day 1 - Spielmannsau to Kemptner Hütte via Sperrbachtobel - Ran up Mutlerkopf from KH. 45 mins up, 16 min down. Bracing cold shower pre supper. Enjoyed serving and clearing tables.
Day 2 - Morning yoga ritual begins. Madelejoch and descent into Austria. Stopped at the first hut for coffee. Crossed hangenbrücke and descended to Holzgau for a good lunch. Taxi transfer to materielbahn and ascent to Memminger Hütte. Rucksack gate! Two of the rucksacks were missing (Philip and Manfred). Both men showed their class and kept v good humoured. Turned out the bags had not been put on the bahn! Nice evening hike up Seekogl with Iris.
Day 3 - Nice deck for morning yoga. Hour or so ascent to Seescharte and descent to Unterlockalm. Had to catch Karl when he took a bit of a tumble on the rubbly descent. Schnapps at the alm courtesy of Wolfie "Minneral wasser" as Hubert joked. Rain storm during lunch. Tedious descent to Zams.
Day 4 - Body enjoyed sauna at Hotel in Zams. Jagerhof. Uplift and then the lovely hohen weg to Galflun Alm where I found a guitar and played to the guests while they had coffee. Lovely descent to Wenns and then 45min bus transfer to Mittelberg and the materielbahn for Braunschweiger Hütte. Good feed thanks to Dagma at the Gletcher Stubel. Good ascent to BH.
Day 5 - Crossed Pitztaler Joch (first time using boots) and descended the snowfield, helping guests where necessary: sometimes offering a hand, other times taking their poles, other times spotting or simply encouraging. Grim ski station. Transfer through tunnel and then, relief, away from the ski station and on the panorma weg to Vent. Good lunch there at Alt Vent Hotel. In the afternoon Hubert pushed ahead with the faster ones. I stayed at the back. He and one or two other then came back to help the strugglers by carrying their packs. By then the rain had set in.
Day 6 - Woke up in a cloud at Martin Busch Hütte. Cloud cleared somewhat during the two hour procession up to the Similaun Hütte. Good coffee and strüdel. Steep zigzags and then easier ground. Two hours or so down to the finish and excellent dumpling at the Tiesen Alm.
