This day up Tryfan was my first attempt at the North face Tryfan and I was aiming to scramble up solo.
To this day I am aware of many things. Firstly, it was not the correct conditions for this type of adventure, the reason for this was because I was not ready at the time for the exposure, technicality and icy slippery underfoot.
I had walked up so high and realized that the rock was too slippery to be able to climb over, it was not possible to divert to avoid either. As a result, I had to come out and looking back this was not a safe risk assessed day in the mountains.
Why am I posting about this day if it was neither successful or to plan, well I had learned that I need to invest in the proper footwear for all weather conditions and that scrambles should not be done solo in icy conditions.
The main reason that I am posting this is to show that not all days in the mountains have been sun and rainbows, perfect or to plan and that I know what it is like to be ill-prepared.
The silver lining of this day is the fact that I had made the decision not to partake any further when realizing the conditions were not adequate, perhaps now knowing more I would find it a walk in the park, this last year I have overcome many things, one of those is dressing the best for my weather conditions and increasing ability and reducing fears.
Another thing is that the view was absolutely incredible at the time.
I am certain though that at the time it was the correct decision to come down, especially as it was the same week as a death on Tryfan due to falling.
