This event was posted by another organiser in my Meetup group, but the day before, he pulled out. I had already warned him that it was a very big walk to do in 8 hours, as the nights were drawing in.
When I realised I was going to be the only organiser, I had to post a strong warning on the page that the walk would have to be done at a brisk pace in order to complete the round before dark. Most people dropped out at this point, but I had to privately message three people who I knew from past experience wouldn't be able to complete the round in time.
The day of the walk turned out to be very overcast and rainy. There were just four of us on the walk. One person, a man I've walked with many times before, set off at a surprisingly fast pace, and as we were nearing the first summit, we lost sight of him. It was VERY windy at this point, and the rain cover on my backpack was torn off - luckily it got stuck on a rock and I was able to recover it. We started to look for this man, and after about 10 minutes he appeared, totally exhausted.
He managed to get to the summit, and I tried to persuade him to have a rest and then carry on, as I know he is a very experienced and fairly fit walker. However he insisted on going back down. The remaining three of us carried on, and had a great day, despite the pretty poor weather.
Area :
Glen Lyon to Glen Dochart & Loch Tay (Ben Lawers)
This area covers the peaks to the north and east of Crianlarich. Glen Lyon forms the northern boundary while the road from Crianlarich to Aberfeldy is the southern boundary. The Ben Lawers group in the east of this area includes seven separate peaks, all Munros, which are part of an impressive 12km ridge line. The western side of this area is generally lower and not as steep but does still home some a number of Munros. All major peaks above 600m are included in the mountains list. The area to the north is Loch Rannoch to Glen Lyon.
