Description

I posted this walk as an event with my Meetup group, and 12 people signed up. As the day approached, thunder was forecast for late afternoon, but I felt confident that we'd have finished our walk by then. There was quite a long walk-in, and the weather was beautiful, however it got increasingly hot and clammy as the gradient got steeper. There were a couple of inexperienced walkers in the group. One of them got really tired in the heat, and I encouraged her to sit down, drink some water and eat something salty and something sweet. After that she was fine. As we approached the summit, I could see dark clouds gathering in the distance, and as we reached the cairn, I started to hear distant thunderclaps. After a 20-min lunch we started to make our way back quite briskly – all apart from one person, who was in a bad mood, and refused to budge. He is a very experienced walker, so I knew he would be fine. The storm did not hit until we were just approaching the car park - then all hell broke loose. Everyone got back safely and only a couple of people got wet.

Area : Loch Lomond to Strathyre (Ben More)

Ben Lomond (974m) and Ben More (1174m) sit on opposite sides of this area which stretches from Loch Lomond to the western end of Loch Earn. There are two distinct sections, to the north and south of Glen Voil, with the remaining peaks sitting to the south of Loch Katrine. Access to the majority of the hills in this area is commonly from Crianlarich, Aberfoyle or Callander.
