Parking at the sugar bowl, using the main tourist path to Chalamain gap, the snow conditions were good and cols, with a green wheel, however care needed to be taken on East Facing slopes due to the history of the slope.
The original plan was to ascend braeriach using the ridge then decending down the gully between Braerich an Sron na Larig down into the Lairig Ghru but not feeling confident about what the snow may do I changed the plan before leaving the car park that we would return using the same track back of Braerich an down through the gap.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
