
Return journey from Loch Callater to Loch Muick. Strong head-on winds ascending SW of valley from the Loch. Steep accent adjacent to 'Jock's Road' into soft snow-line at 870m. Substantial thawing overnight although still patches of hard ice and large swathes of Névé from about 980m, particularly on North and Eastern aspects.. Visibility poor and at times less than 10m. Dead-reckoning navigation away from path to Fafernie at 1000m, then to Cairn Bannoch, Cairn of Gowal and Broad Cairn before dropping below snow-line at 850m on track to South of Loch Muick. Total distance 23.86km in 08:09hrs.

Listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The East Mounth: Glen Shee to Mount Keen’, this area includes all of the peaks to the south and east of the A93. Still part of the Cairngorms National Park, these mountains are home to the north facing crags on Lochnagar (1155m) and the most easterly Munro, Mount Keen (939m).
