Description

From Glenmore to Corie Odhar. Then the ridge over small crags to summit of Bynack More. A bearing was taken to the col and then another to the summit of Bynack Beag. We followed the steep NW ridge off the summit to Strath Nethy then battled the bogs back to Glenmore.
Strong Gales and heavy snow above 500m. A small cornice on the steepening ridge below the crags on Bynack More had collapsed. Blocks of hard slab littered the slope making us feel slightly uneasy for a time. Further checks on snow stability eased our worries along with route choices.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
