From Chais car park to Choire an Lochan using pacing and bearing to spot height 1083m. Further bearings taken and moved on through total whiteout conditions to Lochan Buidhe. Bearing taken to head of Corrie Domhain then hand railed the head of Choire an t Sneachda to Fiacaill Chais. Plan to drop off westerly slope back into Sneachda was abandoned as avalanche debris was visible on the crag apron and very obvious cross loading taking place. A quick stability check confirmed the instabilities.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
