Description

A fantastic day in the sun and a delight not to have to go hunting for snow! Snow-line continuous from car level (260m). A warm-up summit of Tom Bàn followed by an arduous slog through the snow-ladened heather until 700m where areas of waist-deep wading in the wind depositions and steep ascent required axe work until the summit of An Caearcallach. Spectacular views in glorious moments of sunshine were to be had whilst traversing the plateau. Underfoot the wind was starting to create a crust and in the saddles a more prominent wind slab formation was to be found. A cloud had parked itself over Creag Meagaidh which allowed for some navigation practice ascending from Puist Coire Ardair, collecting the palindrome 1111m cairn en-route as well as ensuring to stay safely West of the corniced edge on the Southerly descent. I marvelled at the drystone wall constructed on the ridge to Creag na Cailliche, following it most of the way, before dropping East to cross the Moy Burn and back-track to the car.

Area : Creag Meagaidh Loch Lochy To Loch Laggan)

This area includes the famous Creag Meagaidh Range and surrounding peaks of at least 600m. It stretches east of the A82 between Spean Bridge and Invergarry, and north of the A86 as far east as Stob Coire Dubh. There are a large number of impressive winter climbs in Coire Ardair and endless navigation opportunities on and around the high central plateau of Creag Meagaidh itself. The mountains to the north and east of this range are under East Highlands, Monaliadth Mountains.
