9.3km + 1055m. Dalness, Glen Etive.
Left the van at 07.55 and headed up the steep slopes beside Maol Easan, reaching Stob Coire Sgreamhach at 11.15. The steep descent and fine ridge took me out to Beinn Fhada and it's NE top (12.15). Debated heading on to Bidean Nam Bian but seeing the weather closing in from the south west, I decided to cut down the steep south east flanks. It meant that I could confirm that I didn't get to the NE top in 1980, and see the way we had come down in the mist! Nice to explore the upper reaches of the Lairig Eilde before cutting over the bealach (13.30) and picking up the path back to Glen Etive (14.25). Started to snow as I got back to the van (nice and dry).
Area :
Glen Etive to Glen Lochy
This is the area south of Buachaille Etive Mor as far as the A85 (Tyndrum to Oban road). It includes the peaks around the Glencoe Ski Centre (Creise and Meall a’Bhuiridh) alongside eleven other Munros and many other peaks above 600m. Highlights such as Ben Cruachan (1126m) and Stob Ghabhar (1090) remind all-comers that this is an area of high mountains and low glens.
