Description

left the pen y pass car park at 07:45am cold clear morning, took the PYG track then north west to the start of the scramble then following the ridge line to the summit. By then the cloud was starting to come down but the visibility remained very good. i followed the arete which was in good condition not too slippy, i scrambled over the pinnacles but decided today that i would by-pass the one problem by the path to the left. The cloud was breaking and i got a couple of dramatic photos of Garnedd Ugain (one where the summit was poking above the cloud. I dropped down to the flat ground and stopped for a bite to eat. I followed the ridge line to the summit of Garnedd Ugain with a bit more scrambling (following the ridge as much as possible) as i got close to the trig point the wind picked up and the cloud closed in. From the summit i continued south west to pick up the Llanberis path then south to the summit of Snowdon where i found some shelter from the wind and had some more food. I then headed south to the standing stone at the top of the Watkin path then down the scree slope to Blwch Seathau dropping below the cloud line around 800M. I followed the path east then up onto Y Lliwedd, then scrambled to the summit following keeping as far to the north side as possible - This is an excellent scramble in my opinion, always a hand or foot hold in reach and was on the top in about 15/20 mins. I continued east following the path then stopped by a big cairn for my last bite to eat while enjoying the view to the south. I continued east and then picked up the path to the north back down to Cwm Dyli, the start of the path down was very steep at the start and care was required on a couple of occasions. I picked up the miners path back to the car park.
