Description

Planned a walk to climb 2 Corbett from Glen Clova Hotel. I had checked the weatherforecasts and SAIS app. When I left Aberdeen the weather was clear. However as soon as I arrived at the start point the weather came in and it began to snow heavily with extremely poor visibility. I decided to go in the hotel to asses the weather forecasts yet again and wait to see when the weather would clear up and had a coffee. I waited an hour and the weather was still extreme after waiting. It turned out the weather would improve until mid afternoon within the are. I decided to not start my walk due to the weather and average winter skills despite having undertaken a winter skills course at GL last year. Furthermore I was solo so I decided to no proceed with the planned walk that day #bettertobesavethansorry.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
