Two seperate days, me running the training / planning and taking my friend Jon out.
Day 1
Working in the Gwaun Cefnygarreg area for steep ground work and micro-nav. Steep ground covered anchor points - loops and threads, and we covered body belaying up and down, and abseils - angel wings / classic / South African method. Discussed pro's & cons of each.
Then onto some micro nav where as well as practise for myself, Jon needed to refresh so I got the chance to do some actual teaching which was great. Covered pacing / timing / estimating, bearings and route selection & confirmation.
Day 2
Planned as just a good hill day with some good distance to cover for personal fitness.
We completed an 18km route with 1000m ascent in just over 5hrs with a couple of stops / rests. weather was hazy and nav at the start of the day was needed, however it warmed up and became a good practice of estimating our timings based on varying speeds.
Area :
Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park
Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) is a mountain range in South Wales. In a narrow sense, the name refers to the range of Old Red Sandstone peaks popular with walkers which lie to the south of Brecon. Sometimes referred to as "the central Beacons" they include South Wales' highest mountain, Pen y Fan. The range forms the central section of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), a designation which also encompasses ranges both to the east and the west of "the central Beacons". This much wider area is also commonly referred to as "the Brecon Beacons".
