Cracking day leading a friend who is finishing off his round of Munros. In the morning he had been on Beinn Sgreithel (spelling) in full winter. But by the afternoon over on Skye it was blazing summer. However the north aspects still had streaks of snow.
I took today to start building myself up to Skye. This was my first visit back there since 2011 and my first in charge as 'leader'. My friend is a competent walker and fell runner and a superb navigator. But not familiar with climbing/scrambling. That said it was only Sgurr Mhic Choinnich he needed on Skye.
So we set off from Glenbrittle House and up the Am Stac scree (or to the side of it). Quick but tiring ascent. Then I took over route finding, spotting, and guiding on the ascent to Mhic Choinnich. This was absolutely brilliant for me as it gave me chance to explore, guide & test myself. I had brought a scrambling rope and some gear (we also both had harnesses & helmets) but in the end those weren't needed.
We descended the way we came up. Though not being familiar with the Skye Cuillin it took us time to route find both up and down.
I want more of this!
