Description

Snow showers above 800m during short spell in the morning, freezing level rose from 300m-1600m throughout day. Very light winds diminishing through the morning, chilly start with clouds but developing into a crisp sunny winter’s day. Snow only settled very thinly above 800m, crampons not required. From Scales pub navigated to scales tarn. Summit of Saddleback (868m) via Sharp Edge scramble (1), descended via Halls Fell (1). Navigated west via Blencathra field centre to ascend Lonscale Fell (715m) via Whit Beck. Nav’d west Little Man (865m), Skiddaw (931m), Long side (734m). Descended longside edge ridge to High side.

Area : Northern Fells

Generally this is the area to the north of the A66 which runs from Penrith to Cockermouth and the town of Keswick.
