Description

Bike 15km + 650m, 10km + 920m, bike 15km + 240m. Attadale, Glen Carron.
Attadale car park (06.50), cycled the track (pushing the steep sections) past Loch an Droiginn (07.40), over the col (08.05) and down to Bendronaig Lodge (08.35 - 08.50) where I made use of the facilities and read the salutary reminder about Stephen Mitchell. Cycled on to the high point on the track over to Loch Calavie GR035393 where I left the bike. Pathless ground took me onto the ridge at Sail Riabhach (10.35), and on to Bidean a' Choire Sheasgaich (11.20) trying to stay out of the west of the strong easterly winds. A pleasant ridge took me on to Lurg Mhor (12.40) and after some awkward scrambling to Meall Mhor (13.00) where I grabbed a bite to eat looking east over Loch Monar. A return over Lurg Mhor (13.35) took me down to the col where I angled down the slope to the track back to the bike (15.00). A rapid descent took repast Bendronage Lodge (15.10), and I made good time back to Attadale (16.15).
A long day due to the long cycle in and out, but a good one. I greatly enjoyed looking out over Loch Monar at lunch, it felt very peaceful.

Area : Glen Cannich to Glen Carron

This area covers the peaks north of Loch Mullardoch and south of the A890/A832 Strathcarron to Garve road. The fourteen Munros in the area are handily split into two ridges either side of Glen Strathfarrar and a cluster of five to the north and west of Loch Monar. Sgurr na Lapaich (1150m) and An Riabhachan (1129) are the highest peaks on the southern side while Sgurr a’ Choire Ghlais (1083m) is the tallest on the northern side. Mountains in the list are all about 900m. The area to the south of this is Glen Affric and Kintail.
