Description

Trek to the "Lost City", La Ciudad Perdida in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Day 1 trek from El Mamey to Casa Adan camp (5 hours). From Casa Adan to Paraiso Teyuna (9 hours). Paraiso Teyuna to The Lost City then back to Wiwa Camp (11 hours). Wiwa camp to El Mamey (7 hours).
The walking was on jungle trails which due to heavy rain were very muddy and in some places hard going. There were several river crossings which needed careful management. La Ciudad Perdida was only rediscovered in the 1970's by bird hunters deep in the jungle. It had been abandoned during the time of the Conquistadors in the 16th century. Due to Farq rebels the area has been little explored until very recently.
The final trek was in Tayrona National park on the Caribbean Coast. Trek from the park entrance at Arricife to Cabo San Juan with lunch and a swim in the Caribbean before return to Arricife. Alligators were spotted at several coastal swamps.
