Description

Navigation day with Marc Burnett from work. From the Auchlean car park ascended Carn Ban Mor, Sgorr Gaoith and Sgoran Dubh Mor then reversed route to come back down. Pretty wild day with heavy snow, high winds and very poor vis. A great navigation day practicing pacing, timings, walking on a bearing, leap frogging and numerous other poor vis navigation skills. Great day for testing how good your equipment is at keeping you warm and seeing how organised you'r kit is. Marc has never walked in winter and wanted to experience navigating in a white out. Got lots of that today. Just need to get the rest of my log book on to this system. Will take a few months to get 2010 to present on to the DLOG. Thanks MTA.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
