Trip to Ben Rinnes and Aberlour with Ewan MacLeod.
Lovely, sunny, breezy day on Ben Rinnes. Surprised to see Conserve contractors on the path in the broad steep section. The approach had recovered very well. The contractors were taking a snaking line through and away from the damage zone (couldn’t explain the latter). Section above had been revegetated and there was a monitoring scheme like the one we were trying to revive on Lochain/Lurcher's yesterday, but clear sign that people were walking down hill and missing the path, jeopardising the revegetation. Great views from the top, though hazy in distance, and some cloud over Cairngorms.
Area :
Tomintoul to Banff (Morven)
East of Grantown-on-Spey and northeast of the A939 Old Military Road through Tomintoul sit a number of peaks above 600m. Some of the hills are part of the Cairngorms Nation Park and others lie outside its northeast border. Unfortunately none of them qualify for Munro status and the biggest stands at 871m (Morven) in the far southeast of the area.
