With Ian Wallace from Sligachan to Beinn Dearg Mheadhonach and Mhor, then he continued to Glamaig. Good for birds: skylark, golden plover on the ridge up. Dotterel on the ridge up. I was so surprised I took a couple of pictures as proof. Do they really breed there? Wheatear at the summit of Beinn Dearg Mhor, and a hen ptarmigan with four very alarmed tiny chicks just beyond. On the way down there were lots of ring ouzels, and just before I got back to the car, woodland birds, including real blackbirds. There were also dark green fritillaries and a mountaineering sheep silhouetted on the ridge. Why grazing is still permitted on such eroded hills I’ve no idea.
