Myself and a friend climbed Ben Nevis via the Ledge Route, returning via the CMD Arete, with a hired guide. I've described this as a QMD because it presented some challenges and my scrambling skills were practised and increased. I could probably have done this walk without a guide, but I wasn't sure about the path of the Ledge Route so I preferred to do it with someone who knew it well. It was a beautiful dry, sunny day and I loved every minute of this walk. I found the scrambling very enjoyable and we didn't need ropes.
The main challenge was that by the time we reached the start of the CMD, the wind had picked up to around 40mph. We sat down with the guide and discussed whether it was safe to continue. The guide thought it was safe, as long as we felt confident about it. We set off very cautiously, holding onto the rock and taking the bypass paths where available. The wind subsided a bit as we continued. We thoroughly enjoyed this day.
