This was part of a weekend in Sutherland organised by another Meetup group. 50mph winds, gusting up to 60-70mph, were forecast for that day, and I didn't think it was safe to do the walk, as there was an exposed ridge near the summit. The other five all disagreed, saying that most of the ridge was sheltered, and as weather forecasts can be incorrect, I decided to go along anyway, and see how things turned out.
The first part of the walk was breezy but lovely, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but as we got to the exposed part of the ridge, my walking poles started flailing about and the people ahead of me were walking with a distinct sideways gait. I decided to turn back. I had to yell to the people behind me, as the wind was too loud for anyone in front of me to hear. The others continued to the summit and returned safely, though one person had their hat and glasses whipped off by the wind, and another had their glasses broken.
