Description

This was a walk organised by another Meetup group. There was a lot of snow and ice at the summits, and when we got to the summit plateau of Beinn an Dothaidh, unfortunately the group organiser showed an unexpectedly poor understanding of navigation. I really didn't want to have to point out that we were going the wrong way, but it was extremely cold, and after standing around for a while, I tried to point out that we were going in the wrong direction. Most people understood what I was saying (although the organiser still seemed a bit confused) so we started to walk more to the east. However the organiser then spotted the West Top cairn, and started to head for it. In good weather I would have been happy to walk to this viewpoint, but everyone seemed to think this was the summit cairn, and my protests were ignored. In the confusion, someone even started saying that there must be magnetic rocks about because everyone's compasses were malfunctioning! Mine wasn't.
At last, the rest of the group started walking where I was walking, in an easterly direction, and we reached the summit cairn. Luckily the organiser seemed to have no hard feelings towards me for having pointed out her mistake.
We then went to the summit of Beinn Dorain, and after reaching it, I unfortunately fell and sprained my ankle. The organiser lost no time in getting me to a safe position with a mat between me and the snow. Luckily after about a minute the pain started to subside and I was able to hobble down the mountain.

Area : Bridge Of Orchy (Beinn A'chreachain) To Schiehallion

The mountains immediately to the south of Loch Rannoch and to the north of Glen Lyon stretch all the way from Schiehallion (1083m), the birthplace of Charles Hutton’s contour lines, to Beinn Dorain (1076m) near the Bridge of Orchy. There are twelve Munros and a number of other peaks (above 800m) in the mountains list. The peaks to the south of Glen Lyon are included in the Glen Lyon to Glen Dochart & Loch Tay area.
