Description

NYE - bike in with Menzies. Set off late. Lin of Dee about 2030. Biked to White Bridge and crossed - followed deteriorating track to it's end. Epic river crossing - v cold with MTBs. Waist deep water. Arrived at Corrour late (2330) to find it full but good company, fire and whisky. 3 parties in - a group of 3 including an Edinburgh chef (Lachlan) who had long finished their supply of whisky and wine. Camped outside bothy.
Gentle start, walked up Braeriach over obvious shoulder near the top of Larig ghru. Intermitent views and cloud. Slow progress in crampons on ridge and some tricky nav on the plateau. Water ice on ridge. Good progress over moutains to CT.
Dusk climb up Devil's point as AM made slower progress - met near bealach for return to bothy.
High winds overnight.
Epic return bike ride - river not fordable so needed to carry about 8km until the path developed on the Larig ghru side. Back to van on good track from white bridge.
Great exped!

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
