Description

Fantastic day - walked then skied up to Meal nan steac from Auclean. Lomg skin up good track in gale force wind to MCaB - then clear weather and wind across plateau to high col between MCaB and CBM. Snow very hard - mainly ice but some good neve - testing the edges. Excellent skinning up to ridge of SG - very poor visability and skinning on a bearing. Left skis and climbed up to summit. Lost a skin cheat sheet in the wind. Very challenging ski down into driving wind and spin drift. With AM and AL.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
