Description

Another day of upland gales.
Start at car park in Glen Feshie just N of the farm at Achlean. The route started down the valley to the bulldozed track up Allt Choire Chaoil. Cloud base and strong winds above 825m. Upon reaching the plateau at spot height 973m,a bearing was taken to the summit of Mullach Clach a Bhlair. From there a strategy was made to navigate across the plateau in zero visibility. As we neared the second objective in our plan the cloud lifted to a most spectacular sight with a clear view across a white wonderland to Braeriach and Macdui. It was nicely reassuring to see that we were bang on track. The walk out carried on across the plateau to the slopes of Carn Ban Mor and down to Feshie via the track above Allt Fhearnagan. Brilliant day out!

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
