With winds forecast of 60mph gusting 70-80mph over the Cairngorm plateau, a plan was made to look to avoid the worst of the weather. Past experience has shown that the Monadliath does not get the full force of these gales so a no brainer then!
Start from the car park in Glen Banchor. Initially following The River Callender and then turning NW up the banks of Allt Fionndrigh to the col below Creag Liath and crossing over into Gleann Ballach. At the head of the glen ascending the ridge SW to the col and then going up to the summit of Carn Ban 942m. A brief stop before heading up to the summit of Carn Dearg. The wind was strong at this point with unpleasant ice pellets straight along the ridge so we made a sloping descent to Loch Dubh and descended back to Glen Banchor via Gleann Lochain.
