Winter walk from Coulags Bridge around Maol Chean-Dearg on stalker's paths. Snow level c.450m, freezing level forecast around 300-400m, route crossed col at 587m so axes carried, but no crampons. Planned route and led my wife Marion. Stopped briefly at Coulags Bothy on outward and return leg. Squally showers am, becoming steady persistent rain pm. Moderate NW wind throughout, strong to gale force on Bealach a' Choire Garbh. Streams in spate, one difficult crossing at outlet from Loch an Eoin (stepping stones) slipped in and got quite wet! Moving time exactly on Naismith's rule - total time 6 hours 30 minutes.
Area :
Cuillin and Torridon (Liathach)
This area is on the west coast of Scotland and its most well-known mountains are probably Beinn Eighe (1010m) and Liathach (1055m). The area is bordered by Loch Maree and the A832 to the north and Glen Carron and the A890 to the south. It should not to be confused with The Cuillin which is on Skye and listed in the Western Isles region. The mountains list contains all peaks above 800m.
