Description

Start from Garva Bridge and follow the Alt Coire Iain Oig for a short time before picking up a indistinct stalkers path to avoid the worst of the bogs along the stream. Aim for the confluence of Alt Coire nan Dearcag and Feith Talagain. a recce was needed to find a suitable crossing point as the burns were in spate from melt water. After crossing the burn then start up the shoulder of Geal Charn and the start of the snow line. The snow alternated between soft and melt freeze and the visibility was variable due to the partial cloud cover. A short steeper section leads to the summit cairn of Geal Charn (926m), sadly no views at this point. Return the same way.

Area : Loch Rannoch to Newtonmore (Beinn Udlamain)

This area is listed in the SMC Munros Guide as ‘The Drumochter Hills) and covers the hills and mountains between Loch Rannoch and Newtonmore. Loch Ericht forms the western boundary and Glen Tromie the eastern boundary, with the Pass of Drumochter (the A9 and the Highland Main Line) dividing the area in two. Among the seven Munros in this area, only one is over 1000m (Beinn Udlamain is 1011m).
