Description

Winter ascent of Schoolhouse Ridge. Member of group led by a friend (David Broom, qualified ML and Winter ML). Sunny intervals. Light winds. Cloud on summits. Snow level around 300m. Crampons and axe carried by all members of party. Put on crampons below first steeper rock step in ridge. David allowed me to lead group up the steep steps, with him bringing up the rear. Continued to Sgorr Bhan and Sgorr Dearg, descending via N ridge - compass bearing required. Used fence at Meall a' Chaolais as "handrail" to descend east towards Allt Ghiubsachan burn, then contoured round until the school was in sight. Descended directly down steep grass slope to cross fence at gate and hence to road.

Area : Glen Etive to Glen Lochy

This is the area south of Buachaille Etive Mor as far as the A85 (Tyndrum to Oban road). It includes the peaks around the Glencoe Ski Centre (Creise and Meall a’Bhuiridh) alongside eleven other Munros and many other peaks above 600m. Highlights such as Ben Cruachan (1126m) and Stob Ghabhar (1090) remind all-comers that this is an area of high mountains and low glens.
