Description

Parked at locaaaaation near to River Feshie, walking in from the W using track near to Achlean and around Caryn ban bag. Looked at snow banking IVO 882977 then continued up the track to the two cairn summits of Carn ban more. From there tried to find what appeared on a 1:40-000 map as a small building IVO 897971 but nothing there. Moved on up to Sgor Goaith practicing bearing and pacing. Found snow holing location being used by several groups IVO Fuaran biotech. Weather really bad, no horizon line, gale force winds, very hard going. Pacing and bearing does work.
Had to getttt GPS out on return leg to Caryn ban more as I think compass polarity had maybe been reversed????

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
