Started at lower wooded car park, taking track SW toward Chalamain gap, towards the lairig ghru, due to constant rain and warmer temperatures we decided to avoid the ghru and instead detoured up the spur above the ghru & coire gorm. Followed this spur up to Sron Na lairige •1180then continued to follow the ridge along to Braeriach •1235 then through the slushy wells of dee to •1265 and following ridge around to Sgor an Lochain uaine. the intention was to descend the NE ridge howere we decided that due to the weather being as crap we wouldnjust rettttrace the route in rather than go down the ridge in slushy crap conditions. head torch finish coming back through the chalamain gap.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
