Great visibility
Light winds to keep midgies off
Walked from ski resort car park over Cairngorm, Stob Coire an t-Sneachda, Cairn Lochan and Ben Macdui. Then descended the south side of Ben Macdui and followed the valley round Carn a'Mhaim and set up camp next to the river in the Lairig Ghru.
Set timing and pacing challenges as well as relocation challenges when not on paths. Ended up walking for 10hrs (mostly due to not being used to those distances with an expedition pack on)
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
