Description

A yomp from Stourport (home). From Stourport, through the memories park and down across the river bridge, north along the river and past the old church at Areley Kings and a Robin sat on the gate post of an old mansion. Across the fields of cows and then through a field of veg. Down an old tracked Broomy lane. The route then appeared to have been totally washed through, as if the old cart track had acted as a river, we picked our way down the overgrown lane and out onto the fields, Following the right of way across the farm land, the footpath signs had been thrown in ditches and the stiles were in poor repair, some wrapped with barbed wire and others where the footpaths had been blocked off which then forced people to walk across the field of crops, ironically causing more damage than if access had been maintained (Dunley area). Fab views over the fields and far beyond,
We picked up a little of the route we did last week, past the old church then across the fields at Astley, meandered through the Upper Astley woods, past a meandering stream, an old mill then down to the Severn via Dick Brook, past rock houses carved into sandstone, through a field of sheep, the fisheries and then as darkness fell our way was blocked as the path had fallen into the Severn, so a slight detour down and dark and dubious lane, into the back of the council estate which we would of otherwise skirted, through the nature reserve and back over the bridge to Stourport.
20 km. 4hrs 15 mins. Saw no one for the middle 10km.
