From Camping pods, walked through fields then along the road to Scale. Ascended Halls Fell, snowline at 450m, enough a 600m to warrant crampons. .
Crampons and axe as the ridge proper started. 1 other person ascending who was stood about 100m onto the ridge proper, in trainers with a small dog and asked 'does it get worse, can I climb with a dog?' After a brief conversation about what lay ahead and the difficulties even more so getting down, he chose to descend.
Snow in perfect condition. Cloud inversion in the valley, beautiful, magical day. Lots of people sliding around and down Blencathra on their bottoms, some cold looking people in shorts, very cold at summit. Snowing at summit. Descended via zig zags which weren't visible due to snow, skirted to the col and descended onto Souther fell. Kept crampons on to 450m on descent.
Perfect day with James.
