Woke up early again as we knew it was going to be a long hike back. Decided, given favourable conditions, we would head up to Cairn Mhaim and then Macdui via the Ceanna cronn that had seen the day before.
Big streth to get uo there and hamstrings and calves certainly felt like they were getting a work out. Navigation was easier, the first part but after that the day was mainly group management and making sure the others were okay. Fairly sure I got dehydrated so tried to blitz electrolytes. Nav across the plateau was fun, taught the others a little but about micro nav in winter and trying to ensure that everything was done in a way that made sense but accuracy was important too. Stopped at Cairn Lochan to enjoy some peach and quiet before finishing the day off. Wen to the Pine Martin bar for a chill out befor eheading to sleep.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
