MTA ML Navigation Refresher course with Chris Harling, Absolute Mountaineering.
Focus of the course was on navigation using geographic (contour lines to ground) over man made features. Tick off features, attack points, estimating distances, with an emphasis on route planning, breaking the walk down to manageable legs so that the leader can focus on leading, while navigating. Using the 5 Ds in planning, especially "description" for each leg so that there is limited need to focus on the map and/or compass. Also practiced some timing and pacing, but the emphasis remained on "Description."
Operated out of Old Glossop near Bleaklow. Group of 3 candidates along with Chris Harling.
Total Time: 7 hours 49 minutes; Total Distance: 11.25km
