Description

First scrambling route ever!
Winter ascent of Helvellyn via Striding edge, then descent down Swirral Edge.
Some good learning points today with use of the axe. Route was fairly easy to navigate due to the walked in track. Last section to summit was very difficult due to the snow thickness and large patches of ice.
Coming down swirral edge a lot of care needed, but towards the bottom (near to the tarn) my friend and I practiced self-arrests on the hillside.

Area : Eastern Fells

From the Kirkstone Pass to the M6.
