I planned this walk with my 'equals' partner. We travelled from Brockenhurst to Lymington by train and then ferry to Yarmouth IOW. I carried all of my equipment and kit I needed to stay for 2 nights in B and B accommodation and complete 3 walks on the IOW.
We headed East along the coast from Yarmouth for 2 miles/3.2km , the last 0.5 miles/0.8km of this was heading away from the coast on a very slippery track with many tree roots. When we came to a track with houses on each side we turned right and followed this for 0.5 mile/ 0.8km until we came to a T junction. We turned right and followed the track for 0.6 miles/ 0.9km until we came to the road. We then crossed the road and followed the footpath immediately ahead across fields for 1mile/ 1.6km to Wellow. From Wellow the footpath continued South following the Hamstead Trail for 1.6 miles/2.5km until we reached Wellow Down where there were views of The English Channel and Compton Down with the grassland dropping sharply towards the sea. We headed West along the ridge of Compton Down following The Tennyson Trail for 2.8 miles/4.5km to Freshwater. We left Freshwater heading West on a steep footpath to Tennyson Down and climbed up to Tennyson Monument , 147m,which has views back to the south coast of England. 0.9 miles/1.4km. From Tennyson Monument we headed North on a footpath and then small road to Totland and our accommodation for the night. 1.8miles/2.9km
