Description

This was an organised Action Challenge event and the route was marked. However, to gain the most from the day I plotted the route onto and OS Explorer 1:25,000 map on the computer and studied the terrain and route carefully before setting off.
The route largely followed The Thames Path and was along the river and through some towns.
Putney Bridge- Kew Gardens- Richmond- Kingston on Thames- Walton on Thames-Egham- Runnymeade.
Total Distance covered 50 kilometres. Time taken 11 hours 29 mins.
I learnt a great deal about pacing on this walk and used my Garmin watch to maintain a steady pace throughout. Before starting I planned my food and fluid intake carefully. I was very careful to stick to my plan and not try to replicate what others were doing. I looked at other peoples kit and largely felt that people had the correct footwear. I did however, see people who I thought were carrying too much kit for a day's walk with checkpoints.
