Mountain Leading voluntary work for Marie Curie in Whitby and North Yorkshire. The route Started at the Scouts hut and went along an old disused railway that was never a railway (it was a railway that was never to be - as the trains were never to go this route!), we walked the group to Robin Hoods Bay and back alone the coastline. I was the in the trailing group - or sweeping group helping those that were struggling. During the walk I met plenty of different people and it was good to talk, listen to people’s journeys and help. I eventually came upon a group of 3 lads where one of the chaps was really struggling. I encouraged the chap to continue and whilst we walked I assessed his wel being, condition, his ability to walk - I knew that this person needed more support than I could provide - so I radioed in to base and gave co-ord position. I was able to help the charity walker to a local farm talking to him all the way ensuring he was ok and encouraging him. He was very apologetic for causing the disturbance however I re-assured him that that is why we have Mountain Leaders on the event to help and support people who are struggling and to make it safe for them. I really enjoyed the day helping and support a guy who was in a lot of trouble - I also found the event very tiring and my senses were on full alter.
