Today I lead a Woodland Walk as recorded yesterday as part of the New Forest Marathon event.
I had the list of people who had signed up for the walk but others were allowed to register on the day. I checked off people as they arrived and handed them numbered wrist bands which would be collected in at the end to check everyone was back. There were 7 extra people who joined the walk on the day and so I also added their details. The total walkers were 15. I counted them before we left.
We travelled around the route at a slow pace as the group were so interested in the route and wanted to take lots of photographs. We also stopped at key points and talked to them about different aspects of the course including the beautiful estate house and the different trees. the group were particularly happy to finish on the same finish straight as the marathon runners. They were also very happy to receive their medals and T Shirts.
I think this is a great way of including as many people as possible in the event. It was fantastic to see someone who had previously done the 5K Woodland Walk doing the actual 5K race this time. I very much enjoy volunteering on this event as it is always such a great atmosphere with everyone cheering everyone on.
