Description

Parking is a challenge at the start of this walk - managed to get the last space by the closed down spar shop (North east Bethesda. Followed the road east and picked up a way marked path through some farmland and alongside the Afon Llafar, continued south east until Cwmglas Bach. Picked up a very feint path heading West-South-West leading to Crib Lem (Llech Ddu Spur) - scrambled along the ridge line and then finally walked the last part onto the Carneddau plateau, then west to the summit cairn of Carnedd Dafydd.Stopped and enjoyed the view across to the Glyders. From there headed east, lovely view to the west from Bwlch Cyfiyw-drum (looking west into Cwm Pen-llafar) continued north east to the Summit of Carnedd Llywelin which was shrouded in cloud. Took a north west bearing and continued on to Yr Elen. Continued north west to Foel Ganol, then west across Foel Fechan, continued west across some wet ground and crossed the Afon Llafar to reach the same path i used on the walk in and then followed it north wast back to the road, leading back to my starting point.

Area : Carneddau

The Carneddau (lit. "the cairns"; Carneddau is a Welsh plural form, and is sometimes anglicised to Carnedds) are a group of mountains in Snowdonia, Wales. They include the largest contiguous areas of high ground (over 2,500 or 3,000 feet (910 m) high) in Wales and England, as well as six or seven of the highest peaks in the country—the Fourteen Peaks. The range also encloses a number of lakes such as Llyn Cowlyd and Llyn Eigiau, and the Aber Falls waterfalls. It is delimited by the Irish Sea to the north, the Conwy valley to the east, and by the A5 road from Betws-y-Coed to Bethesda to the south and west. The area covers nearly 200 square kilometres, about 10% of the area of Snowdonia.
