Description

Today was spent preparing for Akiak Adventures' next stage of life in the form of Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition section provision.
Route planning and contacting local campsites all came together today as Debbie & I visited the campsites and walked one of the planned routes across the Mendip hills.
Exploring a new area was great - getting to know the main roads and access points for the walks, navigating the actual journey and also risk assessing each stage / part / leg of the walk was great to do. Thinking from a young persons point of view and carrying expedition-weight equipment meant that we were able to come up with some great points to note on the walk - happily our planning had done well and the days exercise went without a hitch. It was also great to take time out to see where some potentially 'easy' slips in navigation could occur - where a group might end up if taken a wrong turn etc.
I look forward to coming back over the coming months for more recces.
