Description

Group walk on Moel Siabod. Started off at the planning stage to be a walk with two adults as equals. The other adult invited two other adults, one of which brought his two sons, aged 9 and 11.

Total Time: 4 hours; Total Distance: 9km; Total Ascent: 902m

Weather was heavy rain during the night before, then light rain all day during the walk. Conditions underfoot were wet, with standing water in trails. The route planned was the west route to the summit of Moel Siabod with a scramble at the end. By the time we reached the base of the scramble to the summit it was clear the boys would not be able to go up, so we turned back.
Ultimately a disappointing day out.

Area : Moelwynion

The Moelwynion (a Welsh plural, sometimes anglicised to Moelwyns) are a group of mountains in central Snowdonia. They extend from the north-east of Porthmadog to Moel Siabod, the highest of the group. The name derives from the names of the two largest mountains in the group, Moelwyn Mawr (great white hill) and Moelwyn Bach (little white hill).
