This was a hike/jog along a section of the Southern Upland Way, covering 89.48 km from St Johns Town of Dalry to Moffat. The route involved 2954 m of ascent, taking nearly 10 hours to complete. The weather was overcast with a moderate wind, which added a bit of challenge to the long day.The terrain was very similar to what I’m accustomed to on the Isle of Man, which made for a comfortable but rigorous day of navigation and endurance. Despite the extensive distance and elevation, the route didn’t present any unexpected challenges. It was an enjoyable experience overall, but it didn’t particularly stand out, so I likely won’t be rushing back to do it again. This QMD involved extensive navigation over varied terrain, managing energy and pace over a long duration, and handling solo decision-making throughout the day. It was a solid day out that reinforced my mountain skills, even if it wasn’t the most exciting route I’ve undertaken.
