Description

Unsupported solo yomp in the Peak District.
Started at Edale just before sunrise.
Pennine way up kinder scout, sunrise from kinder scout.
Descended down Snake pass to Snake road -very wet and muddy slip and slide.
Lost vis when going up other side whilst on old Roman road.
detoured to avoid cows at Cowms moor and descended fire break in Alport valley plantation to Alport farm.
Steep ascent up to Alport castles.
Saw runners over rowlee pasture, originally planned to drop to ladybower but a bit tired as finished 4 12-15 hr night shifts in a row yday.
Dropped over crook hill to ladybower then through woods and over hordron edge.
Bamford edge
Descended to Bamford
Nowhere open for further water but enough carried to make do.
Over stepping stones at weir, weird nav through farmers fields and wood.
Saw a couple who asked if I was nearly home, their jaws dropped when I said I had 20+ km.
Over winhill pike as darkness fell, wooler knoll, loose hill, hollins cross, mam tor. The ridge was beautiful, all to myself, darkness and lights below, a cold wind, cloud blowing across the ridge making me stay on my toes so I didn’t run off something and the sound of a guitarist singing in Castleton and drifting over the hill.
Mam tor ++ windy.
Descent to road and over steeply sided lords seat edge.
Descent by chapel gate to Barber booth and back to the car.
A wet day under foot.
