Description

I joined a Corbett bagging friend from the Rockhoppers MC for a walk based at the Ruigh Aiteachain bothy as I was interested in revisiting the tree regeneration. We had an idea about where to cross the river and scouted this out after the walk in. It was thigh deep, but the current fine. The peaks were straight forward though we had to navigate some steep hard snow patches on the north facing slopes of Leathad an Taobhain, linking them by the exposed patches of heather as we had chosen not to take axe and crampons. On the return we headed across country rather than return via the landrover track, picking up the now very little used and in places quite sketchy old stalker's path that descneds the Slochd Beag gorge and back to recross the river. Very much a spring-time walk!

Area : Glen Tromie to Glen Tilt (Beinn Dearg)

This area includes the mountains in the Cairngorms National Park which lie between Glen Tromie in the west and Glen Tilt in the south of the park. The northern boundary is the River Feshie and to the south, the A9. There are four Munros in the area, the tallest being Beinn Dearg at 1008m, and the area is typically made up of peaty plateaux with the occasional pointy peak.
