Oh check out the bolted sandstone at Frogsmouth! Also Helsby and Frosham, where Colin Kirkus used to stop off for a bit of bouldering on his bicycle ride home to Merseyside from Helyg. Pex Hill is the other main venue in this area, plus a host of urban micro-crags giving lots of sandstone bouldering and bold leads/highball problems. Working for Maghull air cadets, we took some of the more experienced guys for some outdoor climbing. We didn’t have much time so it worked well having guys who could tie there own knots and belay.
